THE LUXURY OF HAVING A STORYFROM 1946 TO TODAY, WE HAVE

IN OVER 90 COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD
In 1946, immediately after the war, the Italian economy was recovering. All industrial sectors, not strictly related to the war, required a restart.
A lot of economic branches, slow down by the war, wanted to restart their business, for example agriculture, textile and real estate sectors.
Among the pioneers of the new economic era in Padua, Giovanni and Guerrino Griggio, cousins and skilled mechanics dedicated to the maintenance of operative and mechanics machines, decided to join their forces to get started the most important adventure in their lives.
They bought a lather and a drilling machine from BREDA, a leading machine tool manufacturer in Padua. After a careful refitting of the two machines, they began the production of machines for sharpening band saw blades used in carpentry.
During the first years of activity Giovanni and Guerrino Griggio worked by order: repairing agricultural machinery, tractor components production and whatever the market asked them.
The first machines built and designed by Griggio were band saws. To start the production they bought a seven meters long lathe, all made in cast iron, ideal for new production.
Those first band saws were vertical and consisted of a sturdy concrete plate produced by Inguardi&Paolin.
To hold the flywheels they applied 2 iron plates with screw to allow the rotation of the big flywheels.
In 1953 the first industrial building was opened, at the address of via Italo Bordin (Padua). Following the bankruptcy of a metal company, Griggio cousins took over all the machine tools, including an old combined machine.
Disassembled, studied piece by piece and improved, it was assembled again with all the modify made, getting ready for the market as an innovative cutting-saw.
The range of products offered now consisted in band saws, sliding table saws and combined saws. Then they produce a double sliding table saw for high-flow production.
Precision, robustness and reliability, qualities that were and will always be synonymous with Griggio, placing the company already in the 50s at the top of national production.
In this climate of innovation, investment and first satisfaction on the market, the soul of the company was marked by the premature death of Giovanni Griggio. The cousin Guerrino decided to continue the business.
Giovanni after a few years from death is replaced by his son.
The company continued to operate in the following years with Giovanni’s son, Paolo. He decide to take care about the commercial part of the company. Driven by enthusiasm and the desire to face the future, it was Paolo Griggio that decided to cross national borders and operating the foreign markets.
Later, the three sons of Guerrino entered on the company and took key positions in the commercial and productive branch.
The 60s and 70s are characterized by the progressive generational change and the continuous development of foreign markets. In the meantime products has continuous innovations, strictly connected with the increasing of industrial processes. Technical and commercial department worked together to follow the continuous request of the market.
The 80s are the years of investment, the first numerical control machines. OLIVETTI becomes a partner in the machining department ensuring shorter working times and higher quality standards The network markets are expanding: Germany, Spain, North Africa, South East Asia, USA and Australia are the most significant markets.
Towards the end of the 80’s Paolo Griggio opened the way to a market stll unexplored, the Soviet Union. A new market, vast and rich in resources that will allow the entrepreneur from Padua, to give Griggio a very high increasing sale in this area. He creates the needs for Russian companies to replace the obsolete Soviet machines with Italian technology.
From Moscow to the Urals and from the Black Sea to Siberia, Paolo Griggio, together with a delegation of woodworking machinery manufacturers, brought Italian technology and the desire for commercial expansion in Russia still linked to communism.
After half a century of activity, Griggio has profoundly changed since 1946.
The current production is about 340 machines per month. There is a machining department with numerical control machines operating even on unmanned shifts, the production area divided into assembly lines and technical office. The covered surface is of 10.000 square metres with 90 employees and an annual turnover of 38 billion lire.
A further important step is the ISO9001 quality certification, with priority to processes and quality.
Griggio Spa now has a consolidated role in the world of woodworking machinery and customers all over the world.
The company invested in production and new developments. The sliding table saw is the most important machine for production.
Research and development activities are dedicated to a very important topic: SAFETY on the workingplace.
After years of research and testing, in 2015, the UNICA SAFE, the most advanced sliding table saw on the market for safety, was presented during Hannover’s fair.
Created and designed by Ing. Bruno Gallo and Griggio technical team, this machine allowed the retraction of the blade in 5 milliseconds. The safety system works with the difference of electrical potential between the blade in low voltage and the human body.
Paolo Griggio in 2016 still leading the company.
For the different business visions with his cousins, sons of Guerrino Griggio, he separated from them and left the company.
In 2019, Filippo, son of Paolo Griggio, has the opportunity to continue what begun in 1946, with the will to follow up the company and continue the experience in the field of woodworking machinery.
By his side, in addition to his father Paolo, icon of this sector, ASCOT Srl and Massimo Rizzo, a company and complementary partners in mechanical and carpentry welding process.
